Cosmetic tattoing

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing or micropigmentation, is a cosmetic procedure where pigment is implanted into the skin to enhance facial features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. It creates a long-lasting, natural-looking effect that reduces the need for daily makeup application.

Day-by-Day Aftercare Protocol

DAY-OF PROCEDURE (Day 0)

Immediately After Treatment:

  • No eye makeup should be applied.

  • Avoid rubbing, tugging, or touching the area.

  • Expect mild swelling, redness, and possibly watery eyes—normal reactions.

Initial Cleaning:

  • Gently blot with a sterile cotton pad or clean tissue if fluid or lymph appears.

  • If needed, use a gentle saline rinse (not contact solution) to flush out excess pigment or debris—especially for sensitive or allergy-prone clients.

DAYS 1–3: “DRY BUT CLEAN” STAGE

Morning & Night Routine:

  • Wash hands thoroughly.

  • Clean the area using a sterile, damp cotton pad with a gentle cleanser (e.g., Cetaphil or baby shampoo diluted with distilled water). Pat—not rub—dry with clean gauze.

  • Apply a very thin layer of aftercare ointment (e.g., Aquaphor, Vaseline, or a PMU-specific product) using a disposable cotton swab.

  • Avoid over-applying to prevent suffocating the skin or causing excess buildup.

DAYS 4–7: “FLAKING & PEELING” STAGE

  • The liner may appear darker and begin lightly peeling or flaking. This is normal.

  • Do not pick or rub; allow flakes to fall naturally.

  • Continue gentle cleansing and applying aftercare ointment once daily only if dryness or tightness occurs.

Key Reminders:

  • Avoid mascara, eyeliner, or any eye makeup.

  • No facials, steam, or direct water spray in the eye area.

  • No lash extensions for at least 2 weeks.

DAYS 8–14: “SETTLING” STAGE

  • Most flaking is complete; pigment appears softer and lighter.

  • No aftercare ointment is needed unless the area feels tight or itchy.

  • Itching = healing. A cool, clean compress can help (don’t scratch!).

AVOID FOR 10–14 DAYS:

  • No lash extensions or lash growth serums.

  • No eye makeup.

  • No saunas, pools, steam rooms, or hot tubs.

  • No direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or sweating heavily.

  • No sleeping facedown.
